Before Washington, D.C. served as the country’s capital, there was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That and the city’s distinction as home to the East Coast U.S. Mint and the Federal Reserve Bank makes government an important role in the city’s economy. The governmental influence is likely one reason for the number of law firms in the area, including several large, prestigious firms. Another is the proximity of two important law schools – University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Temple University Beasley School of Law. In addition to government and law, there are several major Fortune 500 Companies in Philadelphia. Some of those names include CIGNA, Boeing, Lincoln Financial Group and Aramark.
