Attraction

Ben Franklin Bridge, Philadelphia

Tourists come from all over the world each year to experience the many great attractions of San Francisco. The lucky residents who live here can take part in the city’s many cultural gems year-round. Here is a list of several attractions in San Francisco:

Mummers Parade: For more than a century, members of the Mummers Club have put on this extravagant event every New Year’s Day. Thousands spend months getting ready to participate.

Wing Bowl: This is also an annual event, traditionally held just before the Super Bowl. The main event is a chicken wing-eating contest but some 20,000 people attend each year.

Edgar Allan Poe House: He was an incredibly prolific and creative writer and you can see where he spent many of his adult years. Poe is best known for his frightful short stories and poems, but he was also an editor and critic.

Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia

Mutter Museum: This collection of strange and true medical information is maintained by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Skulls, skeletons and corpses were initially collected for medical study but today is open to the public.

Eastern State Penitentiary: This prison was an oddity of colonial American because prisoners were “reformed” by subjecting them to solitary confinement rather than beatings and work details. Today, the prison is host to several events and is a historical landmark.

Philadelphia Zoo: Animals are always a popular attraction and the Philadelphia Zoo is no exception. It’s the oldest zoo in the US. It was slated for opening in the mid 1800s, but was delayed by the Civil War. Today, it’s known for raising animals that are difficult to breed in captivity.
